RPERMIAN ELECTRONICS' HISTORY

PERMIAN ELECTRONICS, INC., now located at 929 South L St. in Midland, Texas, was established in 1965 and incorporated in 1967 by Mr. Bill Shields.  At the time, Mr. Shields specialized in providing two-way radio sales/service and tower sites for community repeaters.  In the "heyday" of CB's, Mr. Shields was reported to have sold over 1 million dollars worth of CB's in the Permian Basin!  Mr. Shields also sold the first, EF Johnson, mobile cell phone (rudimentary) to Mobil Oil Co.  As the 80's drew to a close, Mr. Shields decided to retire, and sold his business to Fred Cross (owner of: Cross Tower Company) in 1987.  Mr. Cross continued to provide similar services as Mr. Shields, but expanded his operations to include a vast, 800MHz Trunking network which covered most of West Texas and part of Eastern New Mexico.  Also, Mr. Cross pioneered the use of alarm monitoring equipment for the West Texas petroleum industry.  During this time, Mr. Cross purchased a small communications shop in Kermit, Tx., and added a new shop in Odessa, Tx.  Mr. Cross also expanded into the oilfield, submersible pump controller/panel business by acquiring TriTech Automation.  As the demand for oilfield monitoring and alarming  equipment increased, Permian Electronics branched out to provide full, automation services for its customers in the early 90's.  In 1994, Mr. Cross sold the tower sites and 800 licenses to Pittencrieff Communications.  These licenses would eventually be used to provide part of the backbone for Nextel's West Texas footprint.  After the sale, Mr. Cross employed the assistance of an engineering firm to assist the staff in developing a submersible pump motor controller (Welltronics) which was completed around 1996, and has been sold throughout the world.  Soon after this (1995), Mr. Cross moved out of state, and left the business in the hands of Mr. Charles Wilson (an employee since 1990).  Mr. Wilson is a third generation electrical/electronic specialist. His grandfather owned and operated a radio & tv shop in West Texas for over 47 years, and his father was an industrial electrician and businessman.  With Y2K approaching, Mr. Cross sold the business to Mr. Wilson in 2000.  Under Mr. Wilson's supervision, the company has continued to evolve into more specialized areas of industrial control and automation.  Permian Electronics and its employees continue to expand their knowledge and understanding of this highly competitive and ever changing market.  It is our goal at Permian Electronics to be on the forefront of technology.  We realize this requires constant adaptation and study of  an ever increasingly complex field.  Early on, Mr. Wilson saw the need for a shop that could provide a "complete" solution for the customer.  Permian Electronics has removed the "mystery" of: "My equipment is fine....It must be the other contractor's stuff causing the problem!"  With the skill set of Permian Electronics' employees, we take the guesswork out of the job.  All of us at Permian Electronics are ready, willing, and able to complete your next automation project.  If you give us the opportunity, we are sure you will be happy with our friendly service and extensive product offerings & solutions.  We have the right product to get your job done.  We sincerely hope you will consider us for your next automation project or service call!
